Rerukane Chandawimala Thero was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk and author. An identity of Sri Lankan Buddhism in the twentieth century, he has been viewed as one of the finest researchers of Thripitaka. He was likewise a Buddhist contemplation expert, educator of Abhidharma and a previous Maha Nayaka of the Swegin part of the Amarapura Nikaya.His books are considered as course readings by writers and Students.
Rerukane Chandawimala Thera was born on 19 July 1897 in the town Rerukana in Kalutara region, western Sri Lanka. His lay name was Rubel Gunawardene. The eldest of a group of 06 youngsters, Rubel's folks were Don Bastian de Paules Gunawardene and Munasinghage Podi Nona. In the wake of having his school instruction at Veediyagoda school up to grade 2, youthful Rubel entered the request of Buddhist friars as a Samanera on 8 January 1906.
